Proper Bagel Restaurant Review
My husband and I headed out to try Proper bagel to have breakfast by Belmont University. With my dog in hand because she is apart of the family to. We sat outside on the cute patio. I am not sure how the company came up with the name but it made me think of Kings and Queens having fancy dinners and being proper and sophisticated. From the article in the Atlantic a researcher of bagels has a theory that bagels came from Poland in the 14th century. One of the Queens of Poland would eat them and they were made of wheat. Bagels were considered expensive back then and only the royal and elite people could afford them. That is not the case these days. Bagels are uber popular all over the world. According to medieval times in Poland bagels brought people good luck in childbirth and an elongated life. I am all about good karma being sent my way. So if that means I need to eat more bagels this year I can handle that. The owners are a family who have been in the baking business for over thirty five years. Which is awesome for us locals because they have honed their craft of making delicious food. My husband had the Gouda and egg bagel. I had the peanut butter and banana toast. I had their house made hot chocolate with their homemade marshmallows. It is beautiful aesthetically inside and out. With lots of friendly customers who wanted to pet my dog. Everyone came and left happy.
The peanut butter and banana toast is made up of house made peanut butter spread‚ fresh banana‚ apple wood bacon and house made marshmallow. It was an explosion of wonderful flavors and gooey deliciousness. If you have a sweet tooth that won’t quit like me you will love it.
Nashville weather can be unpredictable and on this day it was jacket weather. What better way to warm up then with a hot cup of cocoa. I took my first sip and immediately fell in love. This is the best hot chocolate I have had in awhile. Sweet and smooth.
My husband had the Gouda and egg breakfast bagel which is made up of farm egg‚ apple-wood bacon or local sage sausage‚ smoked Gouda cheese and spicy maple ketchup. My husband had the look of contentment on his face when he enjoys his meal. That is a good sign.
Yes‚ I am that person who will take their dog anywhere. Judge me if you need to. I used to judge people before I had a dog but I now understand their innate need to share everything with their animal. Ari loved the bacon! She told me it was “ruffalicious!” I am glad that bagels are for common people now and not just Kings and Queens. My husband and I left with our happy pants on and went to conquer the day. We will be back.

I love bagels‚ but there’s only really one good bagel place in my town and not many more in Boise. When I lived in Charlotte‚ they were all over the place. One of my highlights of visiting NYC was standing in line in the morning at a deli to get a fresh bagel.
