My trip to the Smoky Mountains
My husband and I visited Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge TN which is referred to as the Smoky Mountains. We hiked the Smoky Mountains and I was engulfed in the breathtaking beauty and overwhelming peace. There is also the Pigeon Forge strip which is like a family style Vegas town. There are an abundunce of shows up and down the strip. We went to a magic show that was amazing. There are fun places to eat and tons of shopping you can do. We were only there for three days and didn’t get to the half of the stuff we wanted to do. It is a great place to visit for family‚ friends‚ and couples.
This picture was taken on the chimney top trail were my husband and I got to the top of the mountain. Here are two boys from their boy scout group who climbed the mountain. I was terrified climbing up the mountain because you have to trust in yourself to be careful and not slip. One wrong move and you are falling over the mountain and going to in oblivion. My husband climbed to the top because he is a crazy adventure seeker. I saw the little boy go halfway up so I decided I would go as far as him. The fact that he was ten and climbing this scary mountain gave me courage to go farther.
We went to a magic show on the strip and it was called Magic Beyond Belief by Darren Romeo. There was a tiger in the show and I got to feed him. It was awesome being close to a lion. It cost thirty five dollars for a ticket to the show which was reasonable. My husband had been begging me to go to a magic show forever. I judged it because I thought the tricks could be fake and you would see right through it. I was wrong. This guy had some awesome tricks displayed along with his beautiful singing. He was on Broadway for many years and added music to his show. If you are like me and love musicals you will love this show. The trick I was impressed with was when he was laying on a sword and his assistant was spinning him around. It was freaky to watch and also impressive.
There is also tons of fun shopping to do. You need a camouflage toilet Pigeon Forge has got it. This is my husband displaying the lovely toilet. It made me laugh because they had all kinds of funny souvenirs. They had a eagle and a crocodile blanket. There are also other awesome gifts you can send your family friends if you want to. If you want to send a postcard they have tons of them. They even have a Christmas store year round with tons of Christmas decorations if you want to get going on Christmas early.
After one of our hikes we ate at Hungry Bear BBQ in Gatling burg‚ TN. We got the hungry bear rib and pulled pork lunch special. This picture is of them smoking their meat. You know it is good BBQ when you can see them cooking their ribs out back.
This is a picture of the food we ordered. On the plate is ribs‚ pulled pork‚ mac n cheese‚ coleslaw made fresh‚ sweet beans ‚ and Cali greens. Dose of heaven in your mouth. The lady who owned the restaurant was sweet and told us about the black bears that would come around and try and eat the food from the trash. The owner explained that black bears won’t bother you unless the mama bear is around. The mama bear has to protect her clan. She told us they usually leave you alone and are not aggressive. The best time to see them is at 4:30 pm because they will be out looking for the scraps. Or you can see them at The Bear General Store where you can watch and feed the live bears. Here is a picture of one of the bears we got to see in person.
Here is a picture of a waterfall from another trail we did in the Smoky Mountains. The water felt refreshing and I loved standing under the waterfall. We also saw parents with their three year old boy climbing up the trail like he was little mountain man. You have to see the Smoky Mountains in person to understand how the scenery and wilderness can take over your spirit and leaving you feeling renewed.
What trips have you taken this summer? Do you have a favorite spot?

Gatlinburg is so over-the-top and I love it for that very reason. My only regret is that I never went to Dollywood while I was living in the area.
