Learning Gratitude from Unexpected Places
I woke up this morning with an anxious pit in my stomach. I had not been to church in a while and I remembered the Watoto Choir from Uganda‚ Africa would be there today. Prior to going to church‚ I found myself worrying about my luxury problems. Will I ever get where I want to be in life? Do I have enough money to go shopping to buy that tank top? What am I going to eat for lunch? Does that person like me?
Then‚ I go to church and get a dose of reality from the Uganda choir kids who are singing like it’s the last day they will ever sing again. Their smiles are bright‚ and their eyes are lit up with passion. They are dressed in their bright‚ colorful outfits and dancing beautifully.
These children have had huge crosses to bear in their short lives. A lot of these children become orphans because their parents die of HIV/ Aids. Others are forced into to being child soldiers. Some children are living on the streets and either eating one meal a day or starving to death. It was heart breaking to hear these kid’s stories.
However‚ I left with an abundance of gratitude and all my silly problems were suddenly not problems anymore. I had seen gratitude and joy in these children’s faces who came from so little. They were teaching me a lesson in gratitude today and I would have never expected that when I walked into church this morning.
As of now (4) people have had something to say...

I like the way you said “luxury problems”. I am the same way. So many of my concerns are fluff if I stopped and put my priorities in order
